When you can't figure out the next move.
Updated: Apr 2, 2020
What do we tell confusion and frustration when we can't figure out how to get unstuck?
Ever said to yourself I just don't know what the next step is?
Try Design Thinking.
If you're like me you are more used to thinking along these lines. What should I do next? Let me figure it all out from A to Z while brushing my teeth and if it doesn't make sense just gonna stay right where I am.
Then last summer I came across this resource, the Designing Your Life book from Bill Burnett and David Evans. From their site:
"In this book, Bill Burnett and Dave Evans show us how design thinking can help us create a life that is both meaningful and fulfilling, regardless of who or where we are, what we do or have done for a living, or how young or old we are. The same design thinking responsible for amazing technology, products, and spaces can be used to design and build your career and your life, a life of fulfillment and joy, constantly creative and productive, one that always holds the possibility of surprise."
The strategies and methods they provide helped set me on a different professional path in a more fulfilling role. What I found most valuable is how the approach can be applied to almost any problem. Having a new set of tools creates freedom to tackle all kinds of projects.
